Smiles For Haiti

Hi everyone. My name is Sonia and I will be maintaining this blog with my daughter Katie. She is 10 yrs. old and amazing!! She recently started her own charity. She named it Smiles For Haiti and it benefits orphans in Haiti.
As most of you know, Haiti is located in the Caribbean. It is about the size of Maryland and is home to nearly 8 million people. The people live in extreme poverty. Most have no sanitation, clean water or even electricity. There is not nearly enough food or medicine for everyone and the kids are suffering because of the conditions. Sadly, at least 1 out of every 4 children in Haiti will die before turning five. These are some of the reasons why Katie chose to help orphans in Haiti. She is well aware of the millions of orphans around the world that are waiting for homes due to my interest in adopting in the future. Katie decided that she needs to help as many orphans as she can, which is why she started Smiles For Haiti. Eventually she would love to add more orphanages and countries to her charity, but for now we are just concentrating on Haiti.
Currently we are collecting donations for the children under the care of Reach Out To Haiti in Port-au-Prince. There are currently about 45 orphans, both male and female, from birth to age fifteen. Another 80 sick children are in the Real Hope For Haiti mission/hospital as well. These two places are where the donations are being sent to. We need donations of the following items: Peanut Butter (any brand), Medical Supplies (any type), Soy Formula, Diapers (all sizes), and Baby Wipes. We are also collecting small new toys for the children, personal hygiene items such as a toothbrush, soap, or deodorant and nonperishable food at this time.
If you would like to donate to this worthy charity just drop us a comment with your email address and we'll send give you directions on how to get the items to us. Thank you for your interest in Smiles For Haiti. Together we can bring a smile to the children of Haiti. Thanks for all your help. We hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a joyous holiday season.
